Leila Hussein dared to speak out. Now she's dead
POSTED ON 6/02/2008 | PERMALINK |1 Comments | BOOKMARK

Five weeks ago Leila Hussein told The Observer the chilling story of how her husband had killed their 17-year-old daughter over her friendship with a British soldier in Basra. Now Leila, who had been in hiding, has been murdered - gunned down in cold blood. Afif Sarhan in Basra and Caroline Davies report on the final act of a brutal tragedy.
She watched her husband "suffocate, stamp on, then stab their young daughter Rand in a brutal 'honour' killing for which he has shown no remorse." She divorced and denounced him. Now she's dead. Her husband remains a free man.

Once her daughter was murdered and she courageously chose to leave her abusive, violent husband, Leila Hussein was a marked woman. This is tragic.
